Your Safety on Race Day
We are looking forward to a wonderful Race day on Sunday, October 25. To make sure everyone is safe during the event, we have been working closely with Ohio University and Athens Police Departments to plan and prepare.
Inclimate Weather Policy: The Race will happen rain or shine. The Komen Athens Race for the Cure® puts the safety of its participants, spectators, staff and volunteers first. Dangerous weather conditions pose a unique challenge to an event of our size. Therefore we have adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy:
Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event, with special attention placed on the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds and extreme temperatures. If necessary, participants will be made aware of these conditions and possible dangers through the Komen Columbus website (www.komencolumbus.org) , as well as through other means of communication such as e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and public address announcements.
The Race Director in consultation with law enforcement, fire/EMS and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the Race. Possible changes include: Altering the start time or in extreme situations, cancellation of the event. Visible lightning will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 15 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the Race in 15-minute increments.
If it is felt that it is unsafe for participants to start the Race due to severe temperatures and humidity, the race may be cancelled.
Race personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the Race due to inclement weather. Participants must abandon the race if ordered to do so by the race personnel, fire or police personnel.
Inspections : Safety officials ask that any bags you bring with you are labeled with you name and contact information. All items being carried at or near the Komen Athens Race for the Cure are subject to inspection. Any unattended bags will be confiscated.
Race bibs: All participants must wear Race bibs and have them visible at all times.
Not Permitted: For the safety of all participants, pets, roller blades, bicycles, skate boards or any other types of vehicles (other htan official vehicles) are not permitted on the course. These regulations are for your safety and the safety of the other participants in the race. Please do not bring or carry any of these items with you.
