What You Need to Know Before and on Race Day

We’re just days away from the 2nd Annual Komen Athens Race for the Cure®. Before you make your way to Ohio University’s campus on Sunday, Oct. 23, we wanted to pass along some information you may need to know for Race day.

You can register in-person and pick up your Race packet at one of the following locations listed below. If you’ve already registered as an individual or if you are a team captain and are picking up your team’s items, you can also do so at one of the  following locations.

registration-packet-pickupIf you’ve raised at least $250 and are part of of Club 250, you may pick up your commemorative t-shirt here as well, or drop off any additional donations.

If you’re part of a team, your captain should be communicating with you to distribute your t-shirt and race bib.

Q. What’s the Race day schedule?
A.  10 AM – 12 PM: Registration and Packet Pick-up at Walter Fieldhouse

10 AM: Expo and SurvivorPalooza opens in the Peden Stadium Parking Lot

11:30 AM: Survivor Parade and Opening Ceremony in the Peden Stadium Parking Lot

12 PM: 5K Run and Walk starts in front of the Walter Fieldhouse

12:30 PM: One Mile Family Fun Walk starts out of the Peden Stadium Parking Lot

Q. Where is the Race?
A. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at Noon in front of Walter Fieldhouse. It will end in Peden Stadium parking lot. Here is  a course map. The One Mile Family Fun Walk will begin in the back end Peden Stadium parking lot by the Hockhocking Adenda Bikeway.

Q. How long is the Race?
A. The Race is a 5K route, which is approximately 3.1 miles. The Family Fun Walk is a shorter route at approximately 1 mile. You may choose to walk or run either route.

Q. Are pet and strollers allowed at the event?
A. Pets are prohibited from the event, but strollers are permitted.

Q. What if it rains?
A. Komen holds the right to cancel or change the date or location of the Race in its sole discretion, including in the circumstance of extreme weather. It is likely, however, that the event will happen rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.

We have been working closely with area emergency organizations to ensure all participants are safe as possible on Race day. Safety officials ask that any bags you bring with you are labeled with your name and contact information. Any unattended bags will be confiscated. All participants must wear Race bibs and have them visible at all times.
