What you Need to Know Before and on Race Day

The final details are in place and we’re ready to roll out the pink carpet as we host the 25th Annual Komen Columbus Race for the Cure®. Before you make your way downtown on Saturday, May 20, we wanted to pass along some important information.

First and foremost, rain or shine, the Race will still go on! In case of severe or inclement weather, we’ll provide updates via our website and all our social media channels.

If you’ve registered as an individual, you can pick up your packet at the following locations listed below. If you know someone who still needs to register, they can register and pick up their Race packet at the locations listed below.

Easton Town CenterNew location! We’ll be in the community room, located across the street from Abuelo’s Restaurant. Park in the West Garage for convenience.
Friday, May 19 from 10 AM – 6 PM

Race Day – Vern Riffe Center – 77 S. High St. (registration prices increase by $5 on Race day)
Saturday, May 20 from 6 AM – 8:30 AM

If you’re part of a team, your captain should be communicating with you to distribute your t-shirt and race bib.

Due to road construction by COSI, we are making a change to our water stop location this year. We will be consolidating from two stops to one water stop, which will be located near the corner of Nationwide Blvd and Neil Avenue.

Please be aware of the following street closures:
All roads along the course will begin to close by 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 20. and should reopen by 12 p.m.

• Broad Street between High and Third Streets will close at 6 pm on Friday, May 19.
• High Street between Broad and Town will close at 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.
• Front Street between Broad and Spring will close at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.

More Info You Need to Know
Q. What’s the Race day schedule?
A. The Expo and SurvivorPalooza areas will open at 7 am. The Survivor Ceremony begins at 8 a.m. on the west plaza of City Hall. The 5K Race start time will be at 8:45 a.m., immediately followed by the 5K Walk and the Family Fun Walk.

Q. Where is the Race?
A. The Race will begin on Front Street, just south of Long Street. It will end on High Street, just north of the Columbus Commons. Here’s a course map.

Q. How long is the Race?
A. The Race is a 5K route, which is approximately 3.1 miles. The Family Fun Walk is a shorter route at approximately 1 mile. You may choose to walk or run either route.

Q. Are pet and strollers allowed at the event?
A. Pets are prohibited from the event, but strollers are permitted.

Q. What if it rains?
A. Komen holds the right to cancel or change the date or location of the Race in its sole discretion, including in the circumstance of extreme weather. It is likely, however, that the event will happen rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.


We have been working closely with Columbus Police Department and Fire Department to ensure all participants are safe as possible on Race day. Safety officials ask that any bags you bring with you are labeled with your name and contact information. Any unattended bags will be confiscated. All participants must wear Race bibs and have them visible at all times.

During the course of the Race, if there is severe weather or a safety threat, participants will be asked to evacuate the course and go to the closest emergency safety location. You can view a map of the safety locations here.
